Travel to Nara

Nara, located in the northern part of Nara Prefecture, is the prefectural capital and a city well-connected by public transportation. It can be accessed easily from both Osaka and Kyoto via commuter trains. Most international travelers arrive in Japan through major airports such as Haneda or Narita (Tokyo), or Kansai International Airport (Osaka).

From Haneda or Narita Airports

The most convenient way to reach Nara from Haneda or Narita is by taking a Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Kyoto (with departures every 10–15 minutes), followed by a local train from Kyoto to Nara.

Domestic Flights to Kansai/Itami Airports

Alternatively, travelers arriving at Haneda may transfer to domestic flights bound for Kansai International Airport (KIX) or Osaka Itami Airport (ITM). Flights to Itami are available approximately every 30 minutes, and to Kansai every 1–2 hours. Both airports provide convenient access to Nara via local trains and highway buses.

Train Stations in Nara

Nara has two main train stations: Kintetsu Nara Station and JR Nara Station. These stations are located on different railway lines and offer convenient access to the city from various directions.

  • Kintetsu Nara Station is the closest station to the conference venue, located about a 20-minute walk away (1.5 km). It is served by the Kintetsu Nara Line, which offers frequent and fast connections from Kyoto, Osaka Namba, and Kansai International Airport (via transfer at Yamato-Saidaiji or Tsuruhashi Stations).
  • JR Nara Station is slightly farther from the venue, approximately a 30-minute walk (2.3 km). It is served by the JR Yamatoji Line and the Nara Line, providing direct access from Kyoto Station (via the JR Nara Line) and Tennoji Station in Osaka (via the JR Yamatoji Line).

Both stations are located in central Nara, and there are numerous hotels, restaurants, and shops around them. Depending on your point of departure and preferred route, you may find one station more convenient than the other.
